Remembering Autumn In July...

I can feel Autumn, if I try just hard enough,
Remembering the blades of grass in the Fall,
As they begin their muted decline to dormancy.

The sun beats down now in unforgiving rays
Of abusive power it won't apologize for.

I try to remember the cool mid-day air
That neither chills nor stifles breath,
In comfortable draws soaking lungs
With invigorating energy of brisk Autumn air.

I can remember Autumn, if I try just hard enough.

  1. Remember the Fall? You mean the leaves aren't turning where your at yet? We just left spring...get summer for one month and move straight to fall. Now winter...we get to enjoy that for six months :)

Thought I'd stop by, been a bit since I was here last.

  3. @Ryan - Glad you stopped by! I've been so extremely busy lately at work that I'm not getting to blog as much as I would like. Keep coming by, or subscribe via email if you want. Later buddy!

@Anonymous - I love the Fall as well! I was walking to the car this past Saturday, the family was going to get ice cream and the weather was unseasonably cool. I was looking down as I walked and for some reason the grass in my yard reminded me of the way it looked in the fall - uncut. The time of day made the sky look a little fall like as well, it had a vanilla hue to it due to some clouding. For a brief moment I remembered what Fall felt like and looked like. So, I grabbed a scrap of paper from the car and a pen I found on the floor under the console and began to scribble the little poem above. I wrote it standing outside my car, leaning over writing on the scrap of paper on the passenger seat. My wife was loading kids in the car wondering why I wasn't helping... when I showed her the poem and read it to her she said, "You better get that one published to pay me back for not helping me get all these kids in seat belts!" God provides men with wives to keep us grounded! :) Thanks for stopping by! I would love to know who "Anonymous" is, by the way!

  4. I am not a fan of summer. It's way too hot and humid for me here in Alabama in July. I am always so refreshed when Fall gets here. I love the cool, crisp days and the beautiful colored leaves. I can definitely identify with the feeling expressed in this poem.
